€56m boost for Competence Centres

A welcome €56m boost has been secured for companies determined to succeed and grow in the Smart Economy.  As part of the Government’s Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation, the Competence Centres are being delivered jointly by Enterprise Ireland and IDA Ireland. Clusters of companies will work together to overcome common research challenges and drive opportunities for innovation, growth and jobs.

The Competence Centre for Applied Nanotechnology (CCAN) will be co-hosted by CRANN and based at Tyndall, UCC.

CRANN highlighted in report of the innovation taskforce

The Innovation Taskforce, launched by an Taoiseach, Brian Cowen in the Science Gallery yesterday has highlighted CRANN as an example of innovation in practice – world class researchers working with Hewlett-Packard to provide technology solutions to the organisation.  The research programme is funded through the SFI CSET programme, with additional Industrial and Development Agency (IDA Ireland) funding.

CRANN PI awarded Einstein Professorship

CRANN Principal Investigator and lecturer in the School of Physcis, Prof. Michael Coey has
been awarded an Einstein Professorship. The Einstein Professorship Program is a key initiative of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Professorships are awarded each year to 20 distinguished international scientists actively working at the frontiers of science and technology, for conducting lecture-tours to China.
